D. Adam & Associates manufacture and supply Navy Steel rust converter primer from our factory based in the United Kingdom.

Navy Steel, is the premier anti corrosion treatment for rusted steel.

This tried and tested, water based product, converts adherent rust and primes the steel in one process to fight corrosion.

Navy Steel is an aqueous, dual acting rust treatment which changes the reactive nature of adherent, residual  rust by converting it into a stable, blue/black, chemical complex firmly bound to underlying iron and steel treated surfaces leaving them ready primed.

Navy Steel converted steel surfaces are ready to paint without the need for costly blast cleaning.

These slides show how the Navy Steel rust converter works.

From the wire brushed rusty metal with the applied coating reacting to give the final blue black primed and treated surface.

Advantages of working with Navy Steel

  • Proven track record in saving costs.

  • Navy Steel has been fighting against corrosion, priming and converting rust on steel structures across the world's oil and gas industry for more than thirty five years.

  • As well as standing up to the harsh cold conditions of the North Sea, Navy Steel is shown to be equally at home protecting steel structures in the hot and humid conditions found in Thailand, the UAE and Africa.

  • Navy Steel is easy to use and safe for storage and transportation.

  • Non flammable, water borne, with ultra low VOC.

  • Tested to pass fire safety Class "O" classification.

  • Used in maintenance paint specifications to avoid expensive blast cleaning operations.

  • Saves on labour, materials and maintenance costs.

Navy Steel applications include:

  • Offshore and onshore oil and gas facilities in the North Sea

  • Ferries, supply boats and ESVs repair

  • Heavy engineering

  • Maintenance of steel factory roofs

  • Process plant and hazard areas

  • Motor vehicles

  • DIY maintenance

  • Yachting and leisure craft

  • And many other practical applications

Navy Steel when applied to rusted metal, causes a chemical reaction to take place within the metal surface.

This chemical conversion turns the adherent treated rust into a stable blue black compound, as shown in the photograph.

The resulting converted primer coating on the steel leaves the surface ready for painting.

  • Easy to apply, and is tolerant of damp humid conditions so long as drying conditions exist.

  • Depending on conditions, a single coat lasts from 6 months to 2 years;

  • A double coating will last for up to 5 years.

How to use a rust converter

  1. PREPARE THE SURFACE OF THE RUSTED STEEL .

  2. WIRE OR POWER BRUSH THE RUSTED AREA.

  3. THE BRUSHING SHOULD REMOVE LOOSE RUST TO EXPOSE SOME CLEAN METAL.

  4. APPLY THE NAVY STEEL BY BRUSH OR ROLLER

  5. ALLOW THE COATING TO DRY TO A DENSE BLACK COATING.

  6. IF THE SURFACE IS NOT TOTALLY BLACK, APPLY A SECOND COAT.

  7. IF REQUIRED, TO GIVE ADDED PROTECTION OVERCOAT WITH PROTECTIVE PAINT.

  8. WASH UP BRUSHES AND EQUIPMENT WITH WATER.

Navy Steel tested in field trials in Thailand

In extended field trials on a floating dock in Bangkok, Navy Steel was tested against a number of well known, high profile competitors.
The competitors products were used in areas 2 and 4, above, and both of them failed the test,
while area 1 shows that Navy Steel passed the test and remained unaffected by sea water immersion.
